Volunteers team up with Temple Emanu-El youth

Our Lady of Sorrows Catholic Church’s volunteer cooks were joined in the kitchen on Feb. 12 by members of the Temple Emanu-El middle school youth group. They were united in making hot lunches for more than 200 food insecure Birmingham residents who will be served by the nonprofit Food for Our Journey van. The menu reflected St. Valentine’s Day and Mardi Gras, featuring jambalaya, fresh fruit, salad, bread, heart shaped cookies, and pink fluff. The van makes several stops throughout Birmingham, serving people who do not have transportation to go to food pantries.
