Saturday, Nov. 1

 The Solemnity of All Saints. The solemnity is celebrated in honor of all the saints known and unknown. While it is a holy day of obligation, this year the solemnity falls on a Saturday, causing the removal of the obligation to attend Mass.


Sunday, Nov. 2

 All Souls’ Day. The day marks a commemoration of all the faithful departed, and it is not a holy day of obligation.

St. Thomas Fall Festival Fundraiser
St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church in Montevallo will host its annual Fall Festival Fundraiser to raise funds for its youth and young adult ministries. From 11 a.m. until 3:30 p.m., there will be food, games, a hayride, and a bouncy house. Kids are also invited to come dressed as their favorite saint. There will be a $5 entrance fee, and food tickets will be available for purchase. Those interested in sponsoring a booth and donating food or drinks, applications are currently being accepted. Her Choice banquet

Her Choice Birmingham Women’s Center will hold their annual banquet at The Club, starting at 6:30 p.m. The keynote speaker will be Joy Pinto, executive director of the center. Tables of eight can be sponsored for $1,500, and a half table can be sponsored for $750. Sponsoring a person is $185. Magnificat Breakfast

The Service Team of Mary, Woman of Faith Chapter of Magnificat will hold its Magnificat Breakfast on from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at Our Lady of Sorrows Parish Hall, featuring Charlotte Sederstrand as the morning’s speaker. Sederstrand is a worship leader and songwriter, who currently serves at the director of youth formation at St. Mark the Evangelist Catholic Church in Birmingham. The $20 tickets for the breakfast are on sale through Nov. 2 and include a catered breakfast. Student tickets cost $15 for youth to age 22. They are available online at BirminghamMagnificat.org or by e-mail  at magnificat0296@gmail.com. If purchasing a ticket by regular mail, please send a check payable to Magnificat by Oct. 29 to: Magnificat Tickets, C/O Jan Smith, 1367 Winola Lane, Birmingham, AL 35235. Tickets for priests, deacons, religious brothers and sisters are complimentary, but reservations are still required. No tickets will be sold after Nov. 2 or at the door. Friday, Nov. 14

Fall Open House

St. Francis Xavier Catholic School in Birmingham will hold an Open House from 9-11 a.m. Attendees will have the opportunity to meet teachers, visit classrooms, and learn about the school’s application process. Registration is required by Nov. 13 and is available at sfxcatholic.com/rsvp. The school is located at 2 Xavier Circle.

Padre Pio Prayer Group

The Padre Pio Prayer group will meet at 10 a.m. at Our Lady of Sorrows Catholic Church in Homewood for adoration, the Rosary, and Mass celebrated by Father Paschal Mary of the Missionaries of the Eternal Word. Please note that beginning in January of 2026, the group will be moving its monthly gatherings to St. Mark the Evangelist Catholic Church in Birmingham.


Thursday, Nov. 20

Adoration Sodality Day of Recollection

The Shrine of the Most Blessed Sacrament will hold an Adoration Sodality Day of Recollection from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. The day will consist of Mass, confession, a spiritual talk, a Eucharistic Healing Service, tours of the shrine and Pope St. John Paul II Eucharistic Center, as well as free breakfast and lunch. Bishop Emeritus Robert Baker will be the guest speaker. This monthly event is free to attend and open to all. The shrine is located at 3224 County Road 548. Saturday, Nov. 22

25th anniversary celebration

Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Church in Annison will celebrate Deacon Mike Cova’s 25th anniversary of ordination to the permanent diaconate. The celebration will begin at 3:30 p.m. with special music before Mass, which will begin at 4 p.m. Following Mass, a parish gathering will be held in the Immaculate Heart of Mary Parish Life Center. All are invited to attend. For those wishing to do so, kindly bring a dish to share. The church is located at 1301 Golden Springs Road. Sunday-Monday, Nov. 23-24

Black Catholic History Month revival

The diocesan Offices of Black Catholic Ministry and Vocations will sponsor a Black Catholic History Month revival at 3 p.m. on Sunday at All Saints Parish in Anniston and at 6:30 p.m. on Monday at St. Francis of Assisi Parish in Bessemer. The theme for the revival is “Preserving our Presence, so the World Will Never Forget.” Speakers will be Father Vernon Huguley, Vicar for Black Catholics and pastor of St. Peter the Apostle Catholic Church; Father Gerald Holloway, pastor of Holy Infant of Prague Catholic Church; and Dr. Ansel Augustine, assistant director of African American Affairs for the Secretariat of Cultural Diversity of the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops.
