Seminarian Education Fund Annual Appeal

The Diocese of Birmingham will mark the feast of St. John Vianney, co-patron of the diocese. St. John Vianney, pray for us.


Saturday, Aug. 8

Women’s retreat

St. Mark the Evangelist Catholic Church will host its Latino Ministry’s annual Women’s Retreat from 9 a.m.-3 p.m. in the St. Mark Room. The day will include prayer, reflection, healing, and fellowship led by Sister Emma of the Sisters of St. Clare Convent. The ticket to attend will be $25 per person and include lunch, snacks, refreshments, and materials. Attendees are invited to attend the parish’s 4 p.m. Vigil Mass following the retreat. James Colye Memorial Mass

The memorial Mass marking the 105th anniversary of Father James E. Coyle’s death for the faith will be celebrated at the Cathedral of St. Paul at 10 a.m. A reception will follow. Tea With Mary
St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Parish will host a Tea with Mary event from 3-4:30 p.m., featuring tea, sandwiches, sweets, good conversation, and reflection on how to be more like Mary as mothers and daughters. The fee to attend is $25 for mother and one daughter. Additional daughters are $10 each. Women of Grace facilitator training

The diocesan Office of Hispanic Ministry will sponsor two online training sessions for women interested in facilitating the Women of Grace study program in Spanish at their parishes. The training is intended for women who completed the online study program last year. Saturday, Aug. 22

Nazareth House

Nazareth House is seeking Catholic high school youth to volunteer as teachers for the 2026-2027 school year and will hold a training and orientation workshop from 9 a.m. until noon at St. Francis Xavier Catholic School in Birmingham. Nazareth House provides religious education, sacrament preparation, and liturgy to children with intellectual and developmental disabilities. Raising Hope Gala and Silent Auction

Catholic Social Services of West Alabama in Tuscaloosa will hold its annual silent auction gala from 5:30-8:30 p.m. at Indian Hills Country Club, located at 1650 McFarland Blvd., N. The evening will feature live music by Sadie McLayne. Sponsorships are available, starting at just $500. The premier sponsorship, which is $5,000, includes a reserved table for ten, two bottles of wine, and sponsor recognition on display during the gala and sponsor listing on the CSS website. Magnificat Breakfast 

The Service Team of Mary, Woman of Faith, Chapter of Magnificat invites the women of the diocese to its Magnificat Prayer Breakfast on Saturday, Aug. 29, from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at St. Elias’ Parish Hall. Mary Margaret Rohling and her son, Frank, will be the guest speakers, sharing an inspiring journey of an addiction survivor’s recovery through faith in God and the fierce, unconditional love of a mother and her fervent prayers. Tickets for the Aug. 29 Magnificat Breakfast are on sale through Aug. 23. A meal ticket is $20 and includes a catered breakfast. Tickets can be purchased online at BirminghamMagnificat.org or by email at magnificat0296@gmail.com.
