Lenten Fish Dinner at Holy Spirit Catholic Church

Holy Spirit Catholic Church in Huntsville will be having a Lenten Fish Fry hosted by the Knights of Columbus Council 7644 from 5-7 p.m. This will continue every Friday during Lent. Lenten Fish Fry at Our Lady of the Shoals

The Knights of Columbus at Our Lady of the Shoals Catholic Church will have their first of three Lenten Fish Fry’s from 4-7 p.m. The price is $12 per plate for adults. Any child under the age of five is free. The other two Lenten Fish Fry’s will take place on March 18 and April 1. The church is located at 200 E. Commons St., N. in Tuscumbia. Pell City parish to hold Lenten Fish Fries

Our Lady of the Lake Catholic Church will hold Lenten fish fries from 5-6:30 p.m., beginning March 4. The parish will also hold a fish fry March 11, 18, and 25. Each dinner will be followed by Stations of the Cross at 7 p.m. A two-piece dinner will cost $10, and a one-piece dinner will cost $8. A child’s plate of cheese pizza will also be available for $4. The church is located at 4609 Martin St., S.

Fourth Annual Lenten Men’s Retreat

St. Mark the Evangelist Catholic Church in Birmingham will host its fourth annual Lenten Men’s Retreat in the Parish Hall, starting at 8 a.m. and ending at 2 p.m. Father Vernon Huguley, pastor of St. Peter the Apostle Catholic Church in Hoover, will be the speaker and facilitator. John Carroll Mattress Sale Fundraiser

John Carroll Catholic High School’s athletics department will host the 5th Annual Mattress Sale Fundraiser in the JCCHS Commons from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. The proceeds will benefit JCCHS Athletics. For more information, go to http://www.jcchs.org/.

Florence Knights to hold fish fries during Lent

The Florence Knights of Columbus Council 3989 will hold a fish fry on three Fridays during Lent: March 11, March 25, and April 8. The fish fry will be held at St. Joseph Regional Catholic School, starting at 4:15 p.m. and ending at 6:45 p.m. Adults cost $12, and children, ages 4 to 6, cost $5. The menu consists of catfish fillets, hush puppies, cole slaw, baked potatoes, French fries, and dessert. Cheese pizza will be available for kids only. All three evenings will be takeout only with tickets available at the drive thru. The school is located at 115 Plum St. in Florence.

‘Growing, Glowing, & Going with God’

The diocesan Office of Black Catholic Ministry will hold a Kujenga conference at Springville Camp. During Kujenga, attendees participate in a three-day leadership training conference. The goal of the conference, which is designed for African American youth, is to nourish and assist in the development of the necessary skills of leadership that will inspire the attendees to become leaders in their family, church, school, and community. Catholic vintage keepsakes sale

The Altar Sodality of St. William Catholic Church in Guntersville will host a sale of Catholic religious items from an estate. Items, most of which are from the early 1900s, include crucifixes, statues, medals, holy water fonts, plaques, and rosaries. The sale will take place from 6-7:30 p.m. on March 11, on March 12 from 4-5 p.m. and 6-7 p.m., and on March 13 from 9:30-11:30 a.m. and 12:30-2 p.m. The sale will be held in the Foley Center on the church’s campus, 911 Gunter Ave. For more information, e-mail dswhitaker2312@gmail.com or ruthannnelson50@gmail.com.

ONE Carroll Fundraiser

John Carroll Catholic High School, in conjunction with John Carroll Education Foundation and the JCCHS PTO, will host an evening of dinner, music, and bidding. The event will be held at the Vestavia Hills Country Club beginning at 7 p.m. The three hour event will feature the band LIVE Wire, a silent auction and a raffle for $8,000 is John Carroll Tuition Bucks, which are redeemable by students who are currently in the fifth- through eleventh-grades. Tickets are required to attend the event and can be purchased at www.jcchs.org. The country club is located at 400 Beaumont Dr.

Arise Adoration Night of Healing

Our Lady of Sorrows Church in Homewood will host an Arise Adoration Night of Healing at 6:30 p.m. on the 2nd floor of the Family Life Center gym. The speaker is Taber Carlson, a Catholic mental-health professional, who will present a talk entitled, “Being called out of the fog of the world.” There will be adoration and music ministry with time for confessions, intercessory prayer teams, and fellowship. Swamp John’s Fish Fry Fundraiser

St. Patrick Catholic Church in Adamsville and the Knights of Columbus Council 10567 will host a Swamp John’s Fundraiser from 4 to 7 p.m. Tickets are $13 a plate. St. Joseph’s Altar

The Italian-American Heritage Society will sponsor a St. Joseph's Altar on Sunday, March 20 at 1 p.m., at Our Lady of the Valley Church in Birmingham. Everyone is invited to attend. Those attending are asked to please bring a meatless dish to share in two disposable pans. There will be a basket at the door for donations and prayer requests. World Mission Rosary for CAM 6

In preparation for the American Missionary Congress (CAM) 6, to be held in Puerto Rico in 2024, there will be the praying of the Rosary throughout the Americas. In the United States for this year, this will take place at 8 p.m. EDT, with National Director Monsignor Kieran Harrington leading the World Mission Rosary offered for the spiritual intentions of CAM 6. This will take place as part of the regular Monday night praying of the Rosary by the Philadelphia Mission Office, via ZOOM, and will be also livestreamed through the official Facebook page of CAM 6.

How to explain and defend your faith

Have you ever been asked questions about your faith by well-meaning, or sometimes not so well-meaning friends, family members, co-workers, or fellow students? If so, then join John Martignoni at St. Theresa’s Catholic Church in Leeds for an introductory seminar on evangelization and apologetics. Martignoni will not only teach how to answer questions that are often asked of Catholics, but he will teach some strategies and techniques that will help learn how to answer any question about the faith. The seminar is open to everyone, but high school and college students as well as young adults are especially invited. Martignoni will hold two additional seminars on March 29 and April 5. All three evenings will start at 6:30 p.m. and end at 8 p.m. The church is located at 8101 3rd Ave.

Choir concert at St. Francis Xavier

St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church in Birmingham will host three choirs, the Birmingham Boys Choir, Sozo Children’s Choir, and the Birmingham Girls Choir, at 7 p.m. Open seating is available, and donations will be taken at the door. The church is located at 2 Xavier Cir.

Morning of Reflection with Bishop Baker

The Cathedral of St. Paul will host a morning of reflection with Bishop Emeritus Robert J. Baker beginning at 8:30 a.m. The event is for the Seven Sisters Apostolate, which prays for priests. The group prays for individual priests in small groups of only seven. Each woman within the group chooses a different day of the week and offers one Holy Hour. Blessed Trinity Shrine Retreat to Offer Several Retreats

The Missionary Servants of the Most Blessed Trinity will start offering several spring retreats at the Blessed Trinity Shrine Retreat in Fort Mitchell. From Monday, March 28 through Thursday, March 31, the sisters will offer “Lenten Quiet Days,” which will be a private retreat with shared prayer time. Father Steve Giorno, S.T., will lead “Spending the Day with Jesus in the Desert” on Wednesday, March 30. Sister Terry Bretthauer, M.S.B.T., will lead “Encountering the Divine in the Beauty Around Us,” starting Friday, April 1 and continuing through Sunday, April 3. Father Guy Wilson, S.T., will lead the “Annual Men’s Retreat,” focusing on the Gospel of St. Luke from April 29-May 1. Sacred Relics of the Saints- Treasures of the Church

Father Carlos Martins, an international expert of relics, will show over 150 relics of the saints that he has obtained and will also give a talk at the Cathedral of St. Paul at 6:30 p.m. The event is free for everyone. Exposition of Sacred Relics

St. Theresa Parish in Leeds welcomes the faithful to an exposition of sacred relics at 6:30 p.m. Among the treasures will be relics of St. Joseph, St. John the Baptist, St. Mary Magdalene, St. Francis of Assisi, St. Anthony of Padua, St. Thomas Aquinas, and St. Faustina Kowalska. There will also be a fragment of the veil that belonged to Our Lady and some of the largest remaining pieces of the wood from the True Cross.
