Priesthood Discernment Weekend

The Office of Vocations is hosting a Priesthood Discernment Weekend at  Casa Maria Retreat Center in Birmingham. Father Andrew Gutierrez, Chair of Pastoral Theology at Notre Dame Seminary in New Orleans, will lead this weekend of prayer, talks, and fellowship for men discerning a call to priesthood. Father Wyman Vintson, Vicar for Vocations, will be present to answer questions about discernment, the application process, and seminary life. This weekend experience is for men ages 18-35. Friday-Monday, February 7-10

27th Annual Shamrock Classic

St. Patrick Catholic Church in Adamsville will be hosting the Shamrock Classic, a post-season basketball tournament for Toy Bowl’s flea division boys and girls. The tournament, which serves as a fundraiser for the parish’s youth ministry, will be held in the Father Raymond J. Murrin Family Life Center. Admission per day is $6 for adults, $3 for children 6-16, and free for children under 6. All are welcome to attend. The church is located at 301 Shamrock Trail. Open House

Padre Pio Prayer Group 

The Padre Pio Prayer group will meet on at 10 a.m. at Our Lady of Sorrows Catholic Church in Homewood. All are welcome to join the group for an hour of prayer, the Rosary, adoration, and Holy Mass led by Father John Paul Mary, M.F.V.A. The church is located at 1728 Oxmoor Road. Organ dedication concert

Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Church in Cullman will hold a family concert to celebrate the dedication of the Dr. Max Richards Memorial Pipe Organ (Austin Organs Opus 2806) from 2-3 p.m. Featured artists will be Bruce E. Ludwick, organist and director of music at the Cathedral of St. Paul, and Floyd Higgins, senior design engineer for Austin Organs and associate music director at Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Church in Suffield, CT. Parish to feature Eucharistic miracles exhibit

St. John the Apostle Catholic Church in Alexander City will display a photographic exhibition, “Eucharistic Miracles of the World,” courtesy of The Real Presence Eucharistic Education and Adoration Association. The exhibition, which was created by Blessed Carlo Acutis, will feature how Jesus has miraculously manifested Himself throughout the centuries. Patrick Brueggen, the international coordinator for the Marian Catechist Apostolate, will give a series of scheduled presentations during the exhibition at St. John’s. On Thursday, Friday, and Saturday, Brueggen will speak at 9 a.m., 11 a.m., 1 p.m., and 6 p.m. No presentation will be given on Sunday. Friday-Sunday, February 21-23

Men in Black: Discernment retreat

St. Bernard Abbey will host a discernment retreat for Catholic students in grades 9-12. The retreat titled, “Men in Black: The Fellowship of the Lord,” will begin 4 p.m. on Friday afternoon. The retreat is free, but a completed registration form is required. During the weekend, the young men will learn about monastic life with conferences, prayers, Mass, social time, and recreational activities, including a campfire. Each retreatant will have a private room with a private bathroom and shower in the abbey’s retreat and conference center. Qualified adults will be present on site during the nights to ensure a safe environment. To register, please e-mail frdominic@stbernardabbey.com. The deadline to register is Feb. 6. The abbey is located at 1600 St. Bernard Drive, Southeast in Cullman.

Magnificat Luncheon

The Magnificat Luncheon will be held at Our Lady of Sorrows in the Parish Hall on from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. The event will feature Christina Fritz as the speaker. As a former Olympic gymnast, she will share her story of how she fought to regain her physical health with God’s help. Tickets are $20 each, which includes a catered lunch. No tickets will be sold at the door or after Feb. 16. The church is located at 1728 Oxmoor Road in Homewood.

Diocesan Confirmation

The diocese will hold a diocesan confirmation at the Cathedral of St. Paul, starting at 10 a.m. Persons not able to be confirmed at their parish or those wishing to be confirmed at the cathedral will receive the sacrament from Bishop Raica. Harbor of Hope

Prince of Peace Catholic Church in Hoover will be offering a mental health support training class, Harbor of Hope, from 8:30 a.m. until 4 p.m. in Deasy Hall. This adult class, taught by Dr. Dale Wisely, PhD, is designed to empower attendees with the knowledge, skills, and compassion to offer initial help and support to those struggling with mental health issues.
