Father Coyle memorial

The memorial Mass marking the 102nd anniversary of Father James E. Coyle’s death for the faith will be celebrated at the Cathedral of St. Paul at 10 a.m. Celebrants will be Bishop Raica and Archbishop Thomas Rodi. A reception will follow. Legion of Mary annual retreat

The Legion of Mary Our Lady of Joyful Hope Birmingham Curia will hold its annual retreat at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church in Talladega, beginning at 10 a.m. with Mass and concluding at 2 p.m. The retreat director will be Bishop Emeritus Robert Baker. American Heritage Girls Troop AL1128 back to troop event

All girls ages 5-18 (and a parent) are invited to come see what the troop is all about by participating in an afternoon of activities, crafts, devotion, and unit time. The event, to be held at Our Lady of the Valley Catholic Church in Birmingham, begins at 1:15 p.m. and concludes at 3:30 p.m. American Heritage Girls is a national scouting organization that strives to offer girls ages 5-18 opportunities to grow in their faith, to serve others, to develop leadership skills, and to have fun! Rosary Prayer Service for an end to gun violence

All Saints Catholic Church in Anniston will host a Rosary for an end to gun violence in our communities, beginning at 11 a.m. Daniel McCormick, diocesan director of religious education, and Father Philip Paxton, C.P., will be the guest speakers. ‘Fishers of Men’ Dinner

The Guadalupe Radio Network in Alabama will hold its 5th annual “Fishers of Men” Dinner at the Vestavia Country Club. Doors open at 6 p.m., starting with a social hour. The dinner and begins at 7 p.m. Nationally renowned retreat director, parish mission preacher, and author, Father Bill Casey of the Fathers of Mercy will be the keynote speaker. This year’s honorees for the “Fishers of Men” Catholic Award are Laney and Gary Gagnon for their tireless work in Catholic evangelization. Magnificat Breakfast

The Service Team of Mary, Woman of Faith Chapter of Magnificat is delighted to invite the women of our diocese to its Magnificat Prayer Breakfast on Saturday, Aug. 26, from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at St. Elias Maronite Catholic Church’s parish hall, 836 8th Street South in Birmingham. The guest speaker, Jennifer Marte Molina. Tickets for the Aug. 26 Magnificat Breakfast are on sale through Aug. 20. Meal tickets are $20 and include a catered breakfast. They are available online at BirminghamMagnificat.org or by email at magnificat0296@gmail.com. Come and See 

The Benedictine Sisters of Cullman invite single, Catholic women ages 18-45 to come to Sacred Heart Monastery and learn about Benedictine life. Attendees will join the sisters for lunch, supper, and prayer at Vespers. There will also be a tour and time to speak with individual sisters about what a sister's life encompasses. The day begins at 10 a.m. and concludes at 6 p.m. The monastery is located at 916 Convent Road, Northeast. EWTN Family Celebration

The Eternal Word Television Network (EWTN) will host a free Family Celebration event at the Birmingham Jefferson Convention Complex, beginning at 8 a.m. Meet inspirational speakers and some of EWTN’s TV and radio hosts. Father Wade Menezes, Jim and Joy Pinto, Johnnette Williams, and Deacon Harold Burke-Sivers will all be there along with some of your favorite friars. There will also be a schedule of simultaneous talks from Spanish hosts, too. All are invited to attend to pray the Rosary, participate in the sacrament of reconciliation, celebrate the sacrifice of the Holy Mass, learn how to become an EWTN Media Missionary, and much more.
