On Holy Saturday, Good Shepherd Catholic Parish in Huntsville welcomed the north Alabama Polish community, of which many are also parishioners. The group gathered to celebrate the traditional Swieconka, or the blessing of the baskets. The tradition entails people bringing baskets containing a sampling of Easter foods, which are blessed on Holy Saturday and shared on Easter morning in a ritual breaking of the fast. One of the special joys of the event is observing the parishioners’ beautiful foods and creations.
