Students participate in first Friday Adoration

Taking time out of a busy day to be in the presence of Jesus in the Holy Eucharist is what the students at Our Lady of Sorrows Catholic School look forward to on First Fridays. Each month, the children participate in adoration as a part of the First Friday devotion to the Sacred Heart of Jesus as revealed to St. Margaret Mary Alacoque (1647-1690) by Jesus. In the morning, the monstrance is set on the church altar with portable kneelers at the base of the altar steps for students to individually approach Jesus in the presence of the Eucharist. “Each grade schedules 30 minutes for adoration on First Fridays,” said Christine LaRussa, director of religious activities for the school. “This is their time with Jesus,” she continued. “I tell them that Jesus wants to know what may be worrying them and that they can freely talk to Him in prayer during this special quiet and peaceful time with Him.”
