Parishioners Celebrate St. Joseph

Claudia Tombrello, Fran Ross Robertson, Marie Swift, and Mary Catherine Tombrello pause at the St. Joseph Altar just before dinner begins at Our Lady of Sorrows Church. Faith, food, and fellowship returned to the church in a big way on March 19 when the Feast of St. Joseph was celebrated. About 100 people gathered for the dining event for the first time since the COVID-19 pandemic started. At the center of the festivities was the St. Joseph Altar. It was assembled to honor the patron saint of the Universal Church. The altar, bearing statues representing Jesus, Mary, and Joseph included fresh fruit and vegetables, loaves of bread, cakes, fava beans, candles, flowers, holy cards, and photos of saints. The dinner followed the 5 p.m. Mass. Father George Maniangattu, visiting from St. Leo the Great Parish, blessed the altar and the food with holy water. Special intentions were collected and free will monetary donations were given for the poor. The St. Joseph Altar originated in Sicily to thank St. Joseph for his intercession at the end of drought and famine.
