Local parish hosts major meal packing event

Our Lady of Sorrows Catholic Church members and guests came together for a special Lenten service project to help ease world hunger. They united with the goal of assembling 30,000 meals for the nonprofit organization Rise Against Hunger. The church hosted the meal packing event on Laetare Sunday, March 10, during three shifts. Each shift began with a prayer and two informative videos. The morning shift was manned by eighth grade confirmation candidates, the afternoon shift was filled by parishioners in general, and the evening shift was operated by members of the middle and high school youth groups. The meals contained soy, dehydrated vegetables, vitamins, and rice. Most meals go overseas to intergenerational feeding programs. Through the years, the parish has packaged 600,000 meals that went to nine countries over three continents. According to Rise Against Hunger, 800,000,000 people are food insecure around the world.
