Local parish celebrates tradition of St. Joseph Altar

Our Lady of Sorrows Catholic Church parishioners celebrated the Feast of St. Joseph on his feast day March 19 by gathering for dinner at the foot of a beautiful St. Joseph Altar. The altar honoring the patron of the Universal Church featured statues representing Jesus, Mary, Joseph, pictures of saints, loaves of bread shaped in Christian images, and more. The parish’s pastor, Father Bob Sullivan, blessed the altar, food, and guests. Parishioners brought and shared meatless dishes including a variety of fish, pasta, casseroles, salad, vegetables, and desserts. Special intentions were accepted and free will monetary donations were collected for the Catholic Center of Concern. The St. Joseph Altar tradition began in Sicily to thank St. Joseph for interceding to end drought and famine.
