Divine Mercy turnout

The Knights of Peter Claver and Ladies Auxiliary gathered for Mass at Sacred Heart of Jesus Parish in the Collegeville neighborhood of Birmingham on Divine Mercy Sunday, April 7, also known as Low Sunday. Father John Paul Mary Zeller, M.F.V.A., celebrated the Mass. The Knights of Peter Claver, founded on Nov. 7, 1909, in Mobile, is the oldest black Catholic lay-led organization still in existence. Living in the 17th century, St. Peter Claver, a Spanish Jesuit, witnessed enslaved Africans being brought to Colombia and was moved by their suffering. He attended to their physical and spiritual needs, leading to numerous conversions to Catholicism.
