The choirs of Holy Spirit Catholic Church in Huntsville gathered for a retreat led by Francisco Carbonell, Diocesan Director of Music, on Nov. 5-6. On the first night, Carbonell led the Hispanic Choir in a night of learning music fundamentals, music theory, and note reading. Dinner was served, then the Hispanic choirs continued singing and learning about the rich history of church music. The next morning, the English language Chancel Choir met for breakfast with Carbonell and enjoyed an intensive choral singing retreat focused on Christmas music. Carbonell gave an enlightened presentation on the history of the development of sacred music and the importance of the connection between theology and music.
