Celebrating Culture

John Carroll Catholic High School’s students, faculty, and staff were treated to a special Hispanic Heritage Month Assembly on Wednesday, Oct. 5. The assembly, organized by members of the John Carroll Heritage Panel, included four 15-minute presentations highlighting food, fashion, dance, and religion from some of the different Hispanic heritage countries (Argentina, Bolivia, Chile, Colombia, Costa Rica, Cuba, Dominican Republic, Ecuador, El Salvador, Equatorial Guinea, Guatemala, Honduras, Mexico, Nicaragua, Panama, Paraguay, Peru, Puerto Rico, Spain, Uruguay, and Venezuela). Student planners included: Emeli Maldonado, Michelle Maldonado, Scarlett Martinez-Cruz, Eva Pascual-Pedro, Lucie Schauer, Daniel Bowers, Alondra Hernandez, Citlali Perez-Torres, Loretzy Jimenez, Angeles Martinez-Cruz, and Annelise Nazario-Pedro. Parent speakers and guests included: Olga Bowers, Maria Bohannon, Maria Rivera, Anna Cortes, Maria Lopez, and Linda and Estrela Ramirez. John Carroll boasts the most diverse private school student population in the greater Birmingham area and has current students representing seven different Hispanic cultures.
