Students participate in the Month of the Rosary

With October recognized as the month of the Holy Rosary by our Catholic faith, this is a special time for the students at Our Lady of Sorrows Catholic School. The children learn how important it is to say this beautiful devotional prayer.

During the month, the students pray a decade of the Rosary, meditating on a different mystery each morning. By the end of the week, they have completed all five decades with their classmates and teacher. To help them with the prayerful meditations, visual aids are provided through a student-recorded video of each mystery.

The students also were introduced to Saint Louis De Montfort’s explanation of the importance of the Rosary. “The word rosary means ‘crown of roses,’” he was quoted as explaining. “That is to say that every time people say the Rosary devoutly, they place a crown of one hundred and fifty-three white roses and sixteen red roses upon the head of Jesus and Mary. Being heavenly flowers, these roses will never fade or lose their exquisite beauty.”

In addition, classes come together to participate in the Living Rosary on their specific day. Forming the shape of the rosary as a group, each student represents a bead and recites this moving meditative prayer. It is such an inspirational way to honor Our Lady as she intercedes for us to our Heavenly Father.
