Students get a taste of the music industry

On May 19, students of Florence’s St. Joseph Regional Catholic School loaded buses for the short ride to Muscle Shoals. Once there, they made their way to the renowned FAME Studios, the famous music recording studio associated with artists such as Otis Redding, Wilson Pickett, Etta James, Solomon Burke, and Aretha Franklin. First, the younger students recorded a new version of the school’s Alma Mater as Father Chuck Deering, the parish’s pastor, looked on with a smile. Afterward, the older students recorded an original composition, “Anchored in Hope.” The song, written by Brittany Bandstra, St. Joseph’s music minister, was inspired by the current theme for the diocesan Catholic schools. The recording also featured Caedmon Jones on piano, Bandstra on guitar, and Benjamin Jones on cello.
