Teens build Stations of the Cross

Prince of Peace Catholic Church parishioners and Prince of Peace Catholic School alumni Ellie Mauter and Ariana Chavez designed, planned, executed, and installed a Stations of the Cross trail on the church’s grounds as their Girl Scout Silver Award project. The two Girl Scout Cadettes installed the stations behind the Adventure Ark Playschool building on the path leading to the outdoor classroom on the hill. The outdoor classroom is used by school students, religious education students, vacation Bible school campers, and it is open to all church groups.

The Silver Award is one of the highest awards in Girl Scouting. The goal is to choose a project that can lead to lasting change. Undoubtedly, leading others to the Lord is certainly lasting.

The newly installed stations are cross-shaped pieces of polyurethane-protected cedar and display an image for each station, a Roman numeral, as well as descriptive text. This faith-based project offers a prayer opportunity to all enroute to the outdoor classroom. The stations were mounted on an existing post and rope trail guide built in 2023 by parishioner and Prince of Peace School alumnus Zachary Wenter as his Eagle Scout project. The outdoor classroom itself was built in 2019 by parishioner and Prince of Peace School alumnus Will Allison as his Eagle Scout project.

Mauter is the daughter of Brian and Janie Mauter of Hoover. Chavez is the daughter of Jessica Espinoza, also of Hoover.
