St. John Paul II Catholic High School named to Advanced Placement School Honor Roll

Huntsville St. John Paul II Catholic High School (JPII) was recently notified it was named to the 2025 Advanced Placement® Program (AP®) School Honor Roll, earning platinum distinction after two years of gold distinction. Platinum is the top tier of the AP School Honor Roll.

The AP School Honor Roll recognizes schools whose AP programs are delivering results for students while broadening participation. Schools can earn this recognition annually based on criteria that reflect a commitment to increasing college-going culture, providing opportunities for students to earn college credit, and maximizing college readiness.

The distinction was given based on the high school having 83% of seniors who took at least one AP exam during high school, 75% of seniors scoring a 3 or higher on at least one AP exam, and 27% of seniors who took five or more AP exams. JPII offers 12 different AP courses with 20 different sections being taught. There are 10 teachers on staff that teach AP classes.

“We are very proud of achieving the College Board’s AP Platinum status,” said Michael Henry, principal of St. John Paul II Catholic High School. “This is a testament to the school’s unwavering commitment to academic excellence and student achievement.”

As a college preparatory school, JPII encourages students to pursue college-level studies with the chance to earn college credits, advanced placement, or both. Through taking AP courses, JPII students learn to think critically, build solid arguments, and gain knowledge.
