St. Bernard Abbey and Preparatory School hosts its annual Clairvaux Members Dinner
St. Bernard Abbey and Preparatory School proudly hosted the annual Clairvaux Members Dinner on Saturday, March 7, in the Abbey Byre. The evening began with Mass, celebrated by Father Joel Martin, president of St. Bernard Prep, alongside the monks of the Abbey.
During Mass, Father Joel thanked the Clairvaux Society members for their sacrifice for the monks of St. Bernard Abbey. He mentioned that Clairvaux is the name of the monastery founded by St. Bernard. It was originally called Bitter Valley, but St. Bernard changed the name to Valley of brightness – Clairvaux. Of the name, the priest noted, "You members of the society help bring that light to St. Bernard in Cullman." Following Mass, guests were treated to a beautifully prepared dinner, catered by St. Bernard Abbey’s Dining Hall Chef Thomas Maddux, and served by students of St. Bernard Prep.
The Clairvaux Society, named in honor of St. Bernard of Clairvaux, the patron of the Abbey, was established in 2010 as St. Bernard’s most prestigious donor organization. The society recognizes benefactors who have made planned gifts to support the abbey and prep school. Funds generated through the Clairvaux Society are maintained in an endowment that funds operational expenses, securing the future of St. Bernard Abbey and Preparatory School
During the evening’s ceremony, five new members were inducted into the Clairvaux Society: Edward and Glenda Alegre, Anthony Maranise, Peter and Sondra Nassetta, Norbert Patla, and Joseph J. Pauls.
The evening concluded with words of gratitude from Brother Brendan Seipel, prior of St. Bernard Abbey, who thanked all in attendance for their support. Special appreciation was extended to the students who served the meal, the caterers, and the dedicated St. Bernard staff who contributed to the event’s success.
