Note: The Solemnity of Mary, Mother of God falls on a Saturday; therefore, the precept to attend Mass is abrogated.

Diocesan Prayer Breakfast in Commemoration of the Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.

The Catholic Diocese of Birmingham in Alabama’s Office of Black Catholic Ministry will host a Diocesan Prayer Breakfast in commemoration of the Rev. Respect for Life Mass

Bishop Raica will celebrate the Respect for Life Mass at the Cathedral of St. Paul at 9 a.m. Following the Mass, a Prayer Vigil and Witness for Life will take place at 10:45 a.m. in front of the Planned Parenthood location in Birmingham, 1019 1st Ave., N. Catholic Schools Week Mass for All Seventh-Graders

The Catholic Schools Office of the Diocese of Birmingham will sponsor a Catholic Schools Week Mass for all seventh-graders at the Cathedral of St. Paul. Since last year’s Catholic Schools Week Mass, which is traditionally attended by sixth-graders, was cancelled, this will allow the children to have a Mass with the bishop. The Mass will begin at 10 a.m.

Catholic Schools Week Mass for All Sixth-Graders

The Catholic Schools Office of the Diocese of Birmingham will sponsor a Catholic Schools Week Mass for all sixth-graders at the Cathedral of St. Paul. The Mass will begin at 10 a.m.


Saturday, Feb. 12

Diocesan Confirmation Mass

The Diocese of Birmingham will hold a diocesan Confirmation Mass at the Cathedral of St. Paul at 10 a.m. Persons not able to be confirmed at their parish or those wishing to be confirmed at the cathedral will receive the sacrament from Bishop Raica. Mass to Celebrate World Marriage Day

The Diocese of Birmingham will sponsor a local Mass to celebrate World Marriage Day. According to the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops, the day is “an opportunity to focus on building a culture of life and love that begins with supporting and promoting marriage and family.” The Mass will be held at the Cathedral of St. Paul at 11 a.m.


Saturday, Feb. 19

St. John Paul II Catholic High School (JPII) Silver Celebration Dinner and Silent Auction

The St. John Paul II Catholic High School (JPII) Silver Celebration will continue throughout the school year and will culminate with a special dinner and silent auction on Feb. 19. The dinner will feature “the cooking priest,” Father Leo Patalinghug, founder of the Grace Before Meals movement. All funds raised will further JPII’s mission to encourage, challenge, and support each student to learn enthusiastically, lead honorably, and live responsibly. The dinner, which will begin at 6:30 p.m. and conclude at 10 p.m., will be held at the school, 7301 Old Madison Pike NW in Huntsville. Tickets for the event will be available beginning Nov. 1 on the JPII website, www.jp2falcons.org.

Consecrated Life Mass and Luncheon

The Diocese of Birmingham will recognize men and women in consecrated life with a Consecrated Life Mass and luncheon at the Cathedral of St. Paul at 11 a.m. Bishop Raica will celebrate the Mass.
