Prince of Peace parishioner wins Faith in Action Award
Stanley J. Stoutamire, Jr. was awarded the 2023 Caitlin Sweeney-McDaniel Faith in Action Award at the 11 a.m. Mass on May 21. This award honors a graduating high school senior within the parish who exemplifies their Catholic faith in action, serves their community, and is a well-rounded student. The award was presented by parishioner Joe Sweeney, who along with his wife Cindy, established it 19 years ago in memory of their daughter Caitlin Sweeney-McDaniel, a Prince of Peace Catholic School student.
Stoutamire is a 2023 graduate of John Carroll Catholic High School and was named a Presidential Scholar by the U.S. Dept. of Education. He was active in school government, the marching band (drum major), and received awards for his trumpet musical skills. He participated in school clubs and sports and was a member of the National Honor Society, Mu Alpha Theta, Spanish Honor Society, and received College Board scholar awards and participated in the Notre Dame University Leadership program. As a Shelby County resident, he held leadership roles in the Shelby 4-H and library.
He is the son of Stanley and Clarissa Stoutamire of Calera and is an alumnus of Prince of Peace Catholic School. He will be attending Princeton University in the fall.
The two runners-up to Stoutamire for this award were Anna Grace Eiswirth and Sarah Claire Sypeck, both Hoover High graduates. Both women are also graduates of Prince of Peace School. These two young women excelled in academics, sports, and community service. Eiswirth is the daughter of Gary and Kristin Eiswirth of Hoover. She will attend Auburn in the fall. Sypeck is the daughter of Scott and Melissa Sypeck of Hoover. She will attend Ole Miss in the fall.
