Parish holds last blood drive until fall

The last American Red Cross Blood Drive of the school year at Our Lady of Sorrows Catholic Church (OLS) had a robust start and finished better than expected. According to Patrick Rupinski who led the Knights of Columbus in organizing the event, “Today's blood drive had a Red Cross-set goal of 32 units. We got 33, beating the goal.” The campaign ran from 8:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. on May 21 and those who turned out were doubly treated. Knights cooked scrambled eggs, bacon, sausage, biscuits and gravy, and grits for donors and their families as a token of appreciation. In addition, the Red Cross gave each donor a colorful beach blanket. The Red Cross says the need for blood is constant: nationwide, someone needs a unit of blood every two to three seconds and most people will need blood in their lifetime.
