Local parish holds day of service

On Saturday, April 12, St. Cecilia’s in Jasper held its second annual Day of Service. It was a beautiful morning, a bit chilly at first, but as the day went on, the weather was perfect and more volunteers arrived to make the day a great success.

As people arrived, they set out immediately to get to work under the wonderful direction of Father Antony Vadakara, pastor. He assigned people to different areas of work inside the church, outside on the grounds, and even dispatched a group to his home to clean inside and out. A group of more than 40 volunteers set out to work in these various areas of the campus.

Some of the work accomplished included replacing mulch in the flower beds, weeding, blowing and raking leaves, cleaning classrooms and the sanctuary, deep cleaning bathrooms in social hall and classroom area, sealing of church pews, replacement of rugs in the narthex area, cleaning the ceiling over the porch area, and mowing the entire campus.

Luis Plaza donated lunch for the volunteers, Son's of Jasper Grocery donated water and drinks, and Pam and Kevin Callahan sponsored a portion of the landscaping work.

The day proved to parishioners that "through service, we grow"!
