Deacon Dennis Kobs passes away at age 91
Deacon Dennis Raymond Kobs, 91 of Athens, passed away Wednesday, Oct. 4, at Athens Limestone Hospital.
Deacon Kobs was born Aug. 25, 1932 in Milwaukee, Wisconsin to Raymond P. and Vange Kobs. He was a graduate of Marquette University in Milwaukee, Wisconsin and a graduate of Loyola University in Chicago, Illinois. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War, and went on to have a primary career in hospital administration.
Deacon Kobs was ordained to the permanent diaconate in 2001, assigned in the last few years to St. Paul Catholic Church in Athens.
His parents precede him in death as well as his first wife, Ann, and one brother, James Kobs.
Survivors include his loving wife, Patricia Ellen (Bedingfield) Kobs; two sons, Michael (Katie) and Peter (Joan); one daughter, Amy (Tim) Summers; two stepsons, Timothy (Megan) Lindsey and Jonathan (Julie) Lindsey; thirteen grandchildren, Michael “Mac”, Charles, Peter, Daniel, Katya Summers, John D. (Jack) Summers, Zachary Summers, Grace Summers, and Alex Summers, Hannah Robinson, Lauren Lindsey, Matthew Lindsey and Jackson Lindsey; one great-grandchild, Bella Summers.
Funeral Mass with cremains will be Saturday, Nov. 4, at 11 a.m. at St. Paul Catholic Church in Athens. Burial will be in the church’s columbarium. The celebrant will be Bishop Steven Raica of the Diocese of Birmingham.
