Cullman parish to host Oktoberfest German Dinner
As has been their long-standing Oktoberfest tradition, the Sacred Heart Altar Society is gearing up to offer their traditional German Dinner on Wednesday, Oct. ,1 from 4-7 p.m. in the parish’s Family Life Center.
This year, as in the past, the dinner will feature a menu of bratwurst, German potato salad, sauerkraut, green beans, applesauce, bread, and a homemade dessert. Many of the recipes used have been passed down from generation to generation according to Pat Arentz, who heads up the dinner for the Altar Society.
The meat used in the dinner comes from Brickyard Meats in Cullman, which is owned by a family of Sacred Heart parishioners.
“This is a huge undertaking for us, but it comes with great rewards,” said Arentz. “Our church members, old and young, show up to help with clean up, serving, cooking and peeling potatoes, and preparing delicious desserts. We could not do this without our volunteers. It’s really a community effort here at Sacred Heart.”
Dinners are $15 a plate and are available for dine-in or drive-through/take-out.
Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Church is located at 205 3rd Avenue, Southeast in downtown Cullman. To learn more about the dinner, please visit sacredheartchurchcullman.org.
