Camp Tekakwitha is thriving
Camp Tekakwitha is a 120-acre property owned by the Diocese of Birmingham in Alabama. Located near Springville, the camp is a facility designed for youth and young adult groups desiring an affordable location for weekend retreats.
The camp has six bunk houses with modern plumbing and comfortable beds. Camp Tekakwitha also features a beautiful chapel, a commercial-style kitchen, meeting spaces, a small lake, and a large swimming pool. All of the camp’s buildings are air conditioned.
The camp, however, is not the camp of years ago. While summer camps for children are no longer held, the many changes to the property have opened up new opportunities for older youth and young adults. This year has proven the success of the camp with most weekends being booked through the end of July.
Parishes interested in scheduling their own weekend retreat at the camp should act soon. August and the rest of the year is expected to fill quickly. Those with existing reservations are encouraged to confirm their dates.
