Bishop Raica announces clergy assignments
PAROCHIAL ADMINISTRATOR
Reverend Manoj Karippai Urmese is named Administrator of Holy Spirit Parish in Winfield, Holy Family Parish in Fayette, and Our Lady of Guadalupe in Haleyville, effective July 1, 2026.
PAROCHIAL VICAR (ASSOCIATE PASTOR)
Reverend Joby Thomas Punnilathil, C.M.I., is named Parochial Vicar of Our Lady of Sorrows Parish in Homewood, effective July 1, 2026.
SACRAMENTAL MINISTRY
Reverend Joseph Lody is assigned to sacramental ministry at Prince of Peace Parish in Hoover and also to Catholic patients in the UAB Hospital network with residence at Prince of Peace Parish, effective August 1, 2026.
ASSIGNMENT MODIFICATION
With gratitude for his dedicated service, Reverend Jon Chalmers concludes his service as President of John Carroll Catholic High School in Birmingham, effective July 1, 2026. Father Chalmers continues as Pastor of Prince of Peace Parish in Hoover.
SPECIAL ASSIGNMENT
Following a request for the permission of Bishop Raica, Reverend Daniel Sessions has accepted an appointment to the Pontifical Ecclesiastical Academy in Rome to prepare for service to the Universal Church in the Diplomatic Service of the Holy See. He remains a priest incardinated in the Diocese of Birmingham in Alabama in service to the Holy See.
