Archbishop Marino appointed to serve Dicastery for Evangelization

Pope Leo XIV appointed Birmingham native Archbishop Joseph Marino to serve the Dicastery for Evangelization for a period of five years, effective May 25, 2026.

The official description of the Dicastery notes, “The Dicastery serves the work of evangelization, so that Christ, the Light of the Nations, may be known and witnessed to by word and deed, and the Church, His mystical Body, may be built up.” The Dicastery has two sections. One section deals with “fundamental questions regarding evangelization in the world, and the other section handles “first evangelization and new particular Churches within the territories of its competence.” Archbishop Marino was assigned to serve the latter.
