Volunteers prepare OLS July 4th Festival

‘Trash and Treasures’ returns

Birmingham’s oldest Independence Day festival is days away and volunteers are working to provide patriotic enjoyment for the community. The 73rd Annual Fourth of July Festival at Our Lady of Sorrows (OLS) will start at 10 a.m. on July 4 at the church, 1728 Oxmoor Rd. in Homewood. The Knights of Columbus Council 4304 is coordinating the event and OLS Pastor Rev. Msgr. Martin M. Muller is the grand marshal.

The knights will smoke tons of Boston Butts, turkey breasts, pork, ribs, chicken, and hot dogs. There will also be baked beans, slaw, and bread as well as whole cakes and individual desserts. Bulk orders will be available as well as plates.

The popular Trash and Treasures rummage sale is returning for the first time since the COVID 19 pandemic. Sale hours are 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. and admission is free. Furniture will be in the parking deck and thousands of other items will be in the gym.

Another part of the charitable fundraiser is a raffle. Tickets are being sold in advance and during the festival. There are 19 prizes totaling nearly $12,000. Food prices and additional details can be found on the OLS website: www.ourladyofsorrows.com. OLS was established in Birmingham in 1889 and has been in Homewood since 1950.
