Students participate in band festival

John Carroll Catholic High School (JCCHS) band students participated in the Alabama Bandmasters Association Solo and Ensemble Festival on Saturday, May 7. Participating students, which also included students from Our Lady of the Valley (OLV), Our Lady of Sorrows (OLS), and St. Rose Academy, must perform a solo, duet, trio, or quartet for a judge. Following the performance, a rating is given ranging from a I (superior rating) to a IV (poor rating). Of the 16 events JCCHS students participated in, 14 received a superior rating and two received an excellent rating.

Students who performed solos were Blase Beaumont, flute solo - superior rating; Sydney Driggers (OLV), flute solo - superior rating; Kayla Evans, clarinet solo - superior rating Lauren Hill, clarinet solo - superior rating; Hannah Kate Harrelson, clarinet solo - superior rating; Elias Marinelli (OLS), clarinet solo - superior rating; Caiden Gaines (OLS), alto sax solo - superior rating; Harrison Balducci, trumpet solo - excellent rating; Tim Miller, trombone solo - superior rating; Harrison Balducci, trombone solo - superior rating; Evie Loyless, trombone solo - excellent rating; Patrick Hensel, euphonium solo: superior rating; Ethan Carter (St. Rose), percussion solo: superior rating.

The ensembles included Lauren Hill and Amaya Carroll, duet - superior rating; Kayla Evans, Katherine Smith, Isabella Berry, and Larissa Garrett, woodwind quartet - superior rating; Daniel Bowers and Fischer Patun, percussion duet - superior rating.

The JCCHS band is under the direction of Dr. Mark Foster.
