Students create literary works of art out of pumpkins
Students at Our Lady of Sorrows Catholic School in Homewood showed their Halloween creativity with a literary pumpkin decorating contest. Students decorated pumpkins as their favorite book characters to display in the library through October. More than 70 children participated in the pumpkin event, and each was a literary work of art. All participants earned a sweet treat and were entered into a drawing. Three students won a $10 gift certificate to purchase a book in the school’s book fair. Sarah Miceli, the school’s librarian, noted, “Students’ excitement about this event was palpable. Our students proved they are not only imaginative but also making connections with books. These connections develop life-long readers.”
