St. John Paul II wins 4A Girls’ Soccer Championship
St. John Paul II Catholic High School’s girls soccer team won their first 4A soccer title, beating St. Luke’s Episcopal of Mobile in the program’s fourth trip to the state tournament and third visit in the championship round. “We finally got one,” coach Samuel Bennett said. Coach Bennett has been at the school since 2017. Senior Ella Cazzavillan scored two goals and had an assist on Lauren Altman’s goal, earning her the championship MVP. Winning the title was a wonderful conclusion to Cazzavillan’s career. She set the school record for goals and assists earlier this year. “It has come full circle,” said Cazzavillan. She and her senior teammates lost in the state title game as eighth graders. Coach Bennett credited the team’s camaraderie and chemistry as the foundation for this championship.
