St. Bernard Prep School kicks off the 2024-25 academic year
St. Bernard Prep School in Cullman proudly commenced the 2024-25 academic year with a spirited assembly attended by 122 eager students alongside dedicated faculty and staff members. The gathering, held in the Swisher Building, marked the beginning of an exciting year filled with new opportunities and a renewed commitment to the school's values.
Headmaster Phuong Nguyen warmly welcomed students and faculty, and the assembly began with an inspiring prayer led by School Chaplain Father Linus Klusarits, O.S.B.
Abbot Marcus Voss shared a heartfelt message, highlighting the unique nature of St. Bernard Prep School. “We are unique because there is a monastery in the center of campus which prays for our alumni, students, and school on a daily basis,” Voss stated, emphasizing the spiritual foundation that sets the school apart from other private institutions.
President of St. Bernard, Father Joel Martin, O.S.B., encouraged students to make the most of their time at the school, drawing inspiration from a poster in the boys' dorm that reads, “Be what God wants you to be and you will set the world on fire.”
Student Council President Cash Daily and Vice President Joey Shadowens outlined exciting plans for the week, including a dance on Thursday evening, a Field Day on Friday, and a special trip to the water park on Friday evening, generously hosted by the LIMH Sisters.
Headmaster Nguyen took the opportunity to reaffirm the school’s mission, philosophy, and honor code, while also discussing religious practices and the importance of community work and service hours.
St. Bernard Prep is thrilled to announce the introduction of new Advanced Placement (AP) classes this year, including AP Biology, World History, Government, and Pre-Calculus. Additional AP courses are available online at no cost to interested students, further enhancing the academic offerings.
The assembly concluded with presentations from the Fine Arts Department, highlighting diverse opportunities for students to engage in two fine arts courses per semester. Students can choose from art, music, theater, or the unique dulcimer/guitar class, allowing them to explore and develop their creative talents.
As the new academic year unfolds, St. Bernard Prep School remains committed to providing an enriching educational experience that nurtures students’ intellectual, spiritual, and personal growth.
