A Pumpkin Perfect Day for Students

Pumpkin Day was a big day for the 1st-grade students at Our Lady of Sorrows Catholic School. Filled with fun and educational activities, the special event was the conclusion of the students’ study of plants and the life cycle of the pumpkin.

The day began when the children visited a pumpkin patch on the front lawn of the school. They continued the excitement in the classroom by enjoying cross-curricular fun and educational pumpkin-style activities that included science, math, language arts, technology, and art. Hands-on projects were available for them to apply and reinforce what they have learned over the past few weeks.

Some of the activities involved placing the life cycle of the pumpkin in sequential order, completing a pumpkin investigation in Math by counting pumpkin seeds in groups of ten, and spending time on their computers to explore an additional virtual field trip to the pumpkin patch.

The students also enjoyed pumpkin stories read to them throughout the day. They even had an opportunity to creatively paint their selected pumpkins to take home.

Our Lady of Sorrows Catholic School fosters the religious, academic, and social development of every child, recognizing that knowledge enlightened by faith and realized through service is at the heart of Catholic education.
