Parish volunteers ‘gear up’ for July 4th Festival
Our Lady of Sorrows’ Trash and Treasure volunteers who will participate in the parish's 76th Independence Day celebration are ready to spring into action. About 75 people turned out for a potluck organizational dinner on April 10. They received kind words and information from Knights of Columbus Council 4304 Grand Knight Clark Tucker and Trash and Treasure chair Melanie Falconer. The team looks forward to welcoming more volunteers – men, women, and teens – as they set up shelving and other equipment on May 17 before donations begin rolling in. Donations can be dropped off at the gym starting Memorial Day, May 26. Furnishings should be left at the parking deck. Items must work and clothes must be clean and stain-free. Things not accepted include large appliances, pianos, tube TVs, sofa beds, mattresses and box springs, cribs, encyclopedias, magazines, textbooks, and armoires. The first workday for sorting and organizing will be June 3. People in the Birmingham-metro area look forward to the hospitality of the festival that includes delicious barbeque, fun games, fellowship, and the bargains of Trash 'n' Treasure.
