Our Lady of Sorrows celebrates 32 years of Perpetual Adoration
Perpetual Eucharistic Adoration flourishes at Homewood’s Our Lady of Sorrows Church (OLS) as the parish celebrates the 32nd anniversary of the devotion. Parishioners gathered on Aug. 17 to mark the occasion. The celebration began with a procession by parochial vicar Father Manoj Karippai Urmese carrying the monstrance from the Chapel of Our Savior to the church. He was accompanied by members of the Knights of Columbus Council 4304 as honor guard and altar servers. Bo Lovell, who coordinates adorers, led the congregation in the Praises of Divine Mercy before benediction. The Holy Sacrifice of the Mass was concelebrated by OLS pastor emeritus Msgr. Martin M. Muller and Father Manoj. Msgr. Muller said that the Mass was to emphasize the glory of God, and the anniversary was to celebrate the goodness of adorers, their substitutes, and God’s goodness. Hundreds of red roses representing committed adorers were in the sanctuary.
After Mass, committed adorers, substitutes, and their families enjoyed a catered appreciation dinner in the Family Life Center. Dinner guests received a complimentary copy of Msgr. Muller’s book, Catholic Answers.
In 1981 Pope John Paul II established Perpetual Eucharistic Adoration at St. Peter’s Basilica and urged parishes to do the same. Perpetual Adoration at OLS was founded on Aug.15, 1992, by parishioners the late Mary Claire Brouillette and the late Ida Wilker under the leadership of Msgr. Muller.
