OLS Students Experience a Month of Inspirational Events

The month of October held many significant events for the students at Our Lady of Sorrows Catholic School in Homewood, particularly with an emphasis on the Holy Rosary and on religious vocations.

The school-wide praying of the Rosary began at the beginning of the month, and each week a set of mysteries was selected as the students prayed one decade of the Rosary each morning together. By the end of each week, the students completed all five decades of that mystery. In addition, each class ended the month by participating in a Living Rosary prayer service. Students were arranged in the shape of the rosary and were assigned to represent a particular bead and to lead the devotion when it was their turn. Some classes held their service outside, while others prayed inside due to inclement weather.

In addition, various religious speakers visited the school throughout the month to talk to the students about religious life. Some of the guests included the Benedictine Sisters from Sacred Heart Monastery and the Leaven of the Immaculate Heart of Mary Sisters from Sacred Heart School, both from Cullman. Other religious are scheduled to visit the school in November as well.

OLS Director of Religious Education, Christine LaRussa, planned each spiritual event and visit to help the school community become closer to Christ through our Blessed Mother.
