OLS plans a Star Spangled party for July 4
As America’s 250 anniversary approaches, Our Lady of Sorrows parishioners are preparing to celebrate with their 77thIndependence Day Festival – the oldest in the Birmingham area. Trash & Treasure volunteers turned out for a potluck dinner and planning session on May 7. After hearing words of encouragement and a blessing from parish administrator Father Kevin Bazzel, about 100 people heard updates from Knights of Columbus Grand Knight Clark Tucker and Trash & Treasure chair Melanie Falconer. A parish workday to get the gym in shape was held on May 16. Donations will be accepted starting Memorial Day weekend. Items must be in working order, and clothing must be clean and free of stains. Items not accepted include large appliances, pianos, sofa beds, mattresses and box springs, car seats with expired dates, encyclopedias and textbooks, and armoires. Additional volunteers are welcome.
