OLS celebrates May Crowning

The Blessed Virgin Mary was venerated by members of Our Lady of Sorrows Catholic Church in their May Procession and Crowning. During the ceremony on May 5 at the beginning of the 8:30 a.m. Mass, members of the Knights of Columbus Council 4304 served as honor guard and a procession of parishioners entered the church carrying flowers and singing “Bring Flowers of the Rarest.” The blossoms were arranged at a side altar devoted to Mary honoring her as the mother of Jesus Christ and of the Church. The statue representing Mary was crowned with a circlet of white roses. The May Crowning tradition dates to the 700s emphasizing Mary as Queen of Heaven and intercessor taking intentions to her Son, Jesus, our King.
