Local Student Achieves Top ACT Score

Alex Halbesleben, son of Jonathon Halbesleben and Jennifer Becker-Halbesleben and a junior at Holy Spirit Catholic High School in Tuscaloosa, earned the highest possible ACT composite score of 36.

The ACT is a curriculum-based achievement exam that measures what students have learned in school.

The ACT consists of tests in English, mathematics, reading, and science, each scored on a scale of 1-36. Students who earn a 36 composite score have likely mastered all of the skills and knowledge they will need to succeed in first-year college courses and the core subject areas.

Fewer than half of one percent of students who take the ACT earn a top score.

Halbesleben is an outstanding student at Holy Spirit Catholic High School. He is a member of the National Honor Society, Mu Alpha Theta, and Student Council. As a member of the Scholar Bowl Team, Halbesleben often earned the most individual points in a tournament and participated in the national competition in Chicago, where he earned tenth place in the nation.  Halbesleben is a member of the youth group at St. Francis University Parish and will soon earn the rank of Eagle Scout.
