Local parish celebrates Mary as Our Lady of Sorrows
Nearly 200 Our Lady of Sorrows parishioners came together on Sept. 15 to celebrate the feast of Our Lady of Sorrows. The holy sacrifice of the Mass was concelebrated by Parish Administrator Father Kevin Bazzel, Parochial Vicar Father Manoj, and Parochial Vicar of Annunciation of the Lord Catholic Parish in Decatur Father Max Gallegos. In his homily, Father Bazzel gave thanks for the solemnity. He pointed out that at the crucifixion, a grief-stricken Mary was under the cross of the Savior and was therefore able to stand with her eyes lifted as she witnessed the greatest moment in human history. He said knowing that should give hope to anyone who bears a cross and he encouraged everyone to ask for Mary’s intercession. After the Mass, church members enjoyed a catered dinner, fellowship, and an impromptu singing of Happy Birthday to Father Bazzel.
