Holy Spirit Catholic School celebrates the Class of 2023

On Saturday, May 20, Holy Spirit Catholic School in Tuscaloosa celebrated 29 seniors with a Baccalaureate Mass and commencement. The Mass was celebrated by Msgr. Michael Deering, pastor of Holy Spirit Parish, with Father Tom Ackerman, pastor of St. Francis University Parish, concelebrating. Superintendent Margaret Dubose and middle/high school principal Jonathan Loper conducted the commencement ceremony. Holy Spirit’s 29 graduates are as follows: Charles Eugene Abney, Alexandra Ann Albea, Kailey Patricia Bartlett, Rebecca Mallory Bragg, William Clay Collins, Pearl Marie Davis, Audrey Ann Duco-Moore, Bethany Carol Fording, Jadyn Patricia Fording, Ann Louise Holt, Norah Grace Hope, Kimori Symone Kimble, Hannah Kate Kinney, Benjamin David Kornegay, Nickolaus James Livingston, William Andrew Lopacki, Alyssa Michelle Mack, Christopher Tidmarsh Major, Taylor Danielle Malone, Grayson Lewis McClendon, Mindy Paige Mitchell, Katelyn Diane Nash, Colby Alexander Phillips, Madison Grace Rodgers, Noah Jacob Schaetzle, William Richardson Shields, Isaac Weatherford Sullivan, Matthew Wynne Wilson, and Kayla Blake Wright.

Eighteen of the twenty-nine seniors received scholarship offers from universities around the country, including Adelphi University, Auburn University, Florida A&M University, Minnesota State University, Samford University, Sewanee, Spring Hill College, Stony Brook, University of North Alabama, The University of Alabama, The University of Alabama Birmingham, The University of Montevallo, and University of Tulsa. As of graduation, the class of 2023 amassed $2,411,016 in total scholarship offers. Three graduates received athletic scholarships in bass fishing, men’s soccer, and women’s tennis. One graduate will attend college on a Marine Corps scholarship and serve in the Marines after his undergraduate.

Alexandra Albea, Rebecca Bragg, Bethany Fording, Jadyn Fording, Ann Holt, Alyssa Mack, Christopher Major, Mindy Mitchell, and William Shields are honor graduates with GPAs over 4.0. Fourteen graduates are members of the Bishop David Foley Chapter of the National Honor Society, nine are members of Mu Alpha Theta math honor society, eight are members of Sociedad Honoraria Hispanics, and one is a member of the National Latin Honor Society.

Alyssa Mack is the salutatorian, and Mindy Mitchell is the valedictorian. The Bishop’s Trophy recipient is Mindy Mitchell.
