Diocese names new chief financial officer

On April 4, the Diocese of Birmingham in Alabama announced that Ed Largaespada will be the diocesan chief financial officer (CFO), effective May 15, 2024.

Largaespada comes to the diocese from the Diocese of Pensacola-Tallahassee in Florida, where he served as CFO for that organization since 2019. He has held prominent roles, such as chief financial officer, chief operations officer, and controller in a variety of business operations and brings tremendous experience in financial planning, budget management, risk management, and regulatory compliance.

A certified public accountant, Largaespada holds a bachelorā€™s degree in agribusiness from Zamorano University in Honduras, and masterā€™s degrees from INCAE Business School in Costa Rica, Florida International University, and American Public University. Originally from Nicaragua, he has lived in the U.S. for more than 35 years.

Largaespada succeeds Robert Sellers, longtime CFO for the Diocese of Birmingham in Alabama, who retired at the end of 2023.
