Diocese to Hold Second Collection to Benefit Missions
The Missionary Cooperative (MCP) Plan collection will take place in the Diocese of Birmingham the weekend of June 25-26.
The Missionary Cooperation Plan (MCP) has a long history in the Diocese of Birmingham, accepting requests from mission dioceses, religious orders and lay organizations to reach out to Catholic of the diocese for financial support. This annual appeal is one that helps to unite the Diocese of Birmingham with the Universal Church and to bring to light mission awareness amongst the people of the diocese.
The faithful of the diocese generously sacrificed a total of $156,699.00 which went directly to missionary participants. The year’s goal of $170,000.00 will benefit the Diocese of Aguascalientes, Mexico; the Diocese of Irinjalakuda, India; the Diocese of Kumba, Cameroon; the Diocese of Maiduguri, Nigeria; the Diocese of Matagalpa, Nicaragua; the Pontifical Ecclesiastical Academy, Rome, Italy; and the Diocese of Warangal, India.
Looking to the upcoming collection, the diocesan Director of the Office of the Society for the Propagation of the Faith, Father Ray Remke, said, “As we reflect on the hope of Christ, may we be inspired and moved with gratitude for those who generously and joyously bring the Gospel to all places and people. … Through this important Mission Appeal, we can reach out to others and answer God’s call.”
