The Diocese of Birmingham’s Office of Education Announces Partnership

Mitchell’s Place to Support Children With Autism and Other Disabilities

Superintendent of Schools Margaret Dubose announced an “agreement with Mitchell’s Place to support our students and our staffs.” Mitchell’s Place, based in Birmingham, “provides diagnostic, educational, and therapeutic support to children with autism or other disabilities and provides professional development to teachers and schools to facilitate the support of students with disabilities.”

In her letter to principals and directors, Dubose wrote, “Through this partnership, Mitchell’s Place can support our schools through observations of students in need of support, working with principals, counselors, teachers, and the family to create and implement behavioral plans, modeling strategies, and providing professional development to a faculty as whole or small groups of teachers involved in the implementation of a student’s plan.”

The consultative services, Dubose said, are immediately available and will continue through Sept. 1, at which time an evaluation of the services will be conducted for possible continuation.

“To me,” Dubose concluded, “this partnership is incredibly exciting as we support our current students with identified or as-yet unidentified needs through this semester, and as we look toward supporting a more inclusive group of students during this season of new admissions and future years.”
