Celebrating 70 years of profession
Father Kevin Bazzel, diocesan Vicar General and Moderator of the Curia, traveled to Buffalo, NY, on May 21 to attend the 70th Jubilee of Felician Sister Rosemarie Kutsko at the Immaculate Heart of Mary Convent. Father Bazzel first met Sister in June 1993, when she traveled to Decatur for a family funeral. When he started his freshman year at UAB that same year, he began to have questions regarding his future. Thoughts he had had about the priesthood in his youth began to come back. He reached out to Sister Rosemarie in January 1994, and she gave him some of the “most important advice” he had ever received: “Why don’t you ask God what He wants you to do?” Six months later, Bishop David Foley accepted him as a seminarian. “Sister Rosemarie’s simple, yet profound, advice,” remembered Father Bazzel, “was the catalyst for me taking the first official step toward the priesthood.”
