A Catholic Retreat Center With Over 100 Years of History in Alabama

Blessed Trinity Shrine Retreat

The Blessed Trinity Shrine Retreat Center, a mission of the Missionary Servants of the Most Blessed Trinity, is nestled in 1,300 acres of rustic woodlands, providing a quiet space for reflection and prayer. For those in the Diocese of Birmingham, it is close to home but far enough away to feel removed from the cares of daily life. Guests can enjoy over 12 miles of walking trails, a Grotto, a Stations of the Cross trail, and more. The main retreat center offers private bedrooms with a jack and jill-style bathroom. For those seeking the silence of a hermitage, there are two options: Emmaus and Nazareth. Guests may enjoy the retreat center during a private retreat, with a group, or during one of the retreats offered by the Missionary Servants of the Most Blessed Trinity. All meals are provided during a guest’s stay.

In September, Father Matt Linn, S.J., returns for another set of healing retreats. Father Linn focuses on integrating spiritual, emotional, and physical healing. He has co-authored 22 books, is a member of the Association of Christian Therapists, and has advanced graduate degrees in spirituality, theology, sociology, and anthropology. This year Father Linn will be at the retreat center for a day retreat and a weekend retreat.

On Friday, Sept. 2, the center will hold a retreat entitled “Applying the Science of Motivation to Change Our Habits.” How to break bad habits and the science of motivation to create good habits will be explored, while learning how to grow in love and compassion even when habits can’t be changed.

Starting Friday, Sept. 2 and continuing through Sunday, Sept. 4, the retreat “Healing the Unconscious Through the Great Parables of Jesus” will be offered at the center. The retreat will look at wherever we are moved in each of Jesus’ stories is really our story of where God is empowering us to give and receive more life and love in the midst of whatever overwhelms us. Retreatants will focus on how to grow, in light of this information, in every dimension of the fullness of life.
