Bishop Releases Statement Following Horrific Shooting in Uvalde, Texas

On May 25, in response to the mass shooting at Robb Elementary School in Uvalde, Texas, Bishop Steven J. Raica released the following statement.

“I am greatly saddened by the gruesome scenes emerging from Robb Elementary School in Uvalde, Texas. As we lift up in prayer those most affected in an embrace of consolation, we, as a faith community, also pursue answers, seeking a courageous pathway forward to ensure the safety and security of all. In our common human family, we are sisters and brothers united in solidarity with those most vulnerable among us. With people of good will, can we, with hearts full of love, honor and respect the human dignity, the very image of God, in all? Evil is overcome by Good. Darkness is overcome by Light. Christ, our Light, has already won the victory we seek. We commend the souls of the departed to the merciful hand of God, where ‘no torment shall touch them’ (Wis 3:1).”

Eternal rest grant unto them, O Lord, and let perpetual light shine upon them. May their souls and the souls of all the faithful departed, through the mercy of God, rest in peace. Amen.
