Bishop Raica Releases New Clergy Assignments

VICARS

Father Robert Sullivan was appointed Vicar General of the Diocese of Birmingham in Alabama, effective Sept. 1, 2021.

Father Anthony Weis was appointed Vicar Forane (Dean) of the West Birmingham Deanery of the Diocese of Birmingham in Alabama, effective Sept. 1, 2021.

Father Joseph Culotta was appointed Vicar Forane (Dean) of the East Birmingham Deanery of the Diocese of Birmingham in Alabama, effective Sept. 1, 2021.

Father Kevin Bazzel was appointed Vicar General of the Diocese of Birmingham in Alabama, effective March 1, 2022.

ADMINISTRATORS

Father John McDonald was appointed Administrator of the Santa Rosa Mission parishes of St. Francis of Assisi in Talladega, Holy Family in Childersburg, and St. Jude in Sylacauga, effective Jan. 25, 2022. He continues as Pastor of Sacred Heart Parish in Anniston.

Father Benny Karimalikkal is appointed Administrator of Our Lady of the Shoals Parish in Tuscumbia, effective Feb. 18, 2022.

PAROCHIAL VICARS (ASSOCIATE PASTORS)

Father Joseph Lody, returning to the Diocese of Birmingham in Alabama from recent service in New Jersey, was appointed Parochial Vicar of St. Thomas the Apostle Parish in Montevallo and Resurrection of the Lord Parish in Clanton, effective Jan. 10, 2022.

With gratitude to the Most Reverend Agapitus Nfon, Bishop of the Diocese of Kumba, Cameroon, Father Mugagga Epah was appointed Parochial Vicar of the Santa Rosa Mission parishes of St. Francis of Assisi in Talladega, Holy Family in Childersburg, and St. Jude in Sylacauga, effective Jan. 25, 2022. He had previously served as Administrator since Dec. 10, 2021.

With gratitude to the Very Reverend Juan Gabriel Rodriguez Campos, Diocesan Administrator of the Diocese of Aguascalientes, Mexico, Father Alejandro Velasco is appointed Parochial Vicar of Annunciation of the Lord Parish in Decatur, effective Feb. 18, 2022.

Father J. Michael Adams is appointed Parochial Vicar of the Cathedral of St. Paul in Birmingham, effective Feb. 18, 2022.

MODERATOR OF THE CURIA

Father Kevin Bazzel, recently returned to the Diocese from service to the Holy See in Rome, is appointed Moderator of the Curia of the Diocese of Birmingham in Alabama, effective March 1, 2022, with residence at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church in Birmingham.
