‘Where Do We Go From Here?’

Diocese Hosts MLK Prayer Breakfast

The Diocesan Prayer Breakfast in Commemoration of the Reverend Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., was held Saturday, Jan. 8 at the Cathedral of St. Paul in Birmingham. The annual event not only features a prominent guest speaker but also is used to recognize two members of the diocese as recipients of the Sister Rita Washington Stewardship Award. This year’s breakfast featured Father Kevin P. Fausz, C.M., V.U., of San Antonio, TX as the guest speaker.

Father Fausz began his working career as a registered nurse; however, in 1982 he entered the seminary and was ordained a Vincentian priest in 1991. He holds a Master of Divinity, Master of Arts in Theology, a Certificate in Spiritual Direction, and a Certificate in Youth Ministry from St. Thomas Theological Seminary in Denver. He has ministered as a priest in Chicago, Missouri, and San Antonio.

As a priest serving in the Archdiocese of San Antonio, Father Fausz is the Dean of the Central Urban Deanery, Chair of the Archdiocesan Presbyteral Council, a member of the College of Consultors, a member of the Priest Personnel Committee, chaplain at Our Lady of the Lake University, and spiritual advisor and board member for the Archdiocesan Council of the Society of St. Vincent de Paul.

Father Fausz has been a part of programs ministering to the poor and those affected by HIV-AIDS. He also is active with the Knights and Ladies of Peter Claver, the Knights of Columbus, the Equestrian Order of the Knights of the Holy Sepulchre, and the NAACP.

During the event, Deacon Douglass Moorer and Angela Rembert were awarded the Sister Rita Washington Stewardship Award for 2021 and 2022, respectively. Look for their highlights during Black History Month.
